Police find shell casings

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating after finding 39 shell casings from four weapons Tuesday on the South Side.

Reports said officers were called about 2 a.m. to East Florida and Erie avenues because of gunfire sensors that recorded about 45 shots on the street.

Police found 29 casings from a .223-caliber assault rifle; seven 9 mm casings; two .380-caliber shell casings; and a .45-caliber shell casing. No damage or injuries were reported.

Terry A. Gray, 32, of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, is charged with felonious assault, accused of stabbing a woman in an apartment on Vernon Avenue Northwest.

Police were called to the apartment by a woman who said a woman was yelling for help at 12:46 p.m. When they arrived, a woman, 47, showed them a blood-soaked towel around her hand. She said a man in the apartment stabbed her, and he was still in the apartment, according to reports.

An ambulance took the woman to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment, and Gray came down from the apartment and was taken into custody.

Police found blood in various places throughout the apartment. Two knives were taken as evidence.

Injured in burglary

YOUNGSTOWN

A 66-year-old Arch Street woman was treated by police after reports said a man forced his way inside her East Side home about 5 a.m. Monday, knocked her to the ground and took her television.

The woman told police she heard glass breaking and a man coming through her window. She screamed for him to get out, but he slapped her in the face, knocking her to the ground, took the TV and ran away, reports said.
