The Poland Fire Department hosted its annual pancake and sausage breakfast on Oct. 29 at their station on South Main Street.
Entry to the breakfast cost a donation of any amount to the fire station. The proceeds from the donations go toward the fire department buying new equipment and allows the department to sponsor local Poland teams.
“The breakfast brings the community to see what the fire department is about, and we can show them around the station,“ said Fire Prevention Officer Bill O’Hara.
He also said that the event shows the fellowship between the firemen and the community.
The event had firefighters on hand to cook pancakes and sausages, to hand out food, refill other food and beverages and to make sure the event runs smoothly. Their volunteer firefighters sold Poland merchandise and ran the 50/50 raffle.
Along with pancakes and sausage, the fire department offered bananas and apples to the public.
They had coffee, tea and water for beverages.
O’Hara said the event brings people together. Members of the community sat next to each other and talked to each other while they ate.
Poland Union Elementary Principal Michael Masucci invited families of Union students to join him for breakfast at the event.
The Ladies Auxillary created the event more than 40 years ago. The fire department took over the event once the group disbanded.
