Food bank donations

CANFIELD

Canfield Middle School is accepting nonperishable food items to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. The student council-sponsored drive runs to Nov. 30.

Year-round, in-demand needs are peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit, tuna fish, dry pasta, canned soup, macaroni and cheese, boxed stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, gravy mix, canned yams and canned vegetables.

Students can donate in their homerooms, and donation boxes are in the school lobby.

Additive awards

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown Fitch High School students were awarded new additive manufacturing equipment from submissions to Youngstown State University’s Manufacturing Day.

Sophomore Makaila Yuschak and junior Jazalynn Lopez won first place with a 3-D printed coin bank and were awarded a 3-D printer.

Freshmen Colin Smith, Robert Hoffman and Larry Iagulli’s submission of a 3-D printed iPhone organizer placed second, and they received a 3-D printer pen.

Powerstown meetings

YOUNGSTOWN

The Powerstown Block Watch monthly meeting will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Faith Community Covenant Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. The Powerstown Action Group meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Both meetings are open to the public.

Cleveland man charged

LIBERTY

A Cleveland man has charges pending after police said he overdosed and crashed his vehicle into a pole on Madison Road early Sunday.

The driver, 36, was revived with several doses of Naloxone, the report said.

The vehicle had been traveling westbound on Madison Road when the driver crossed the center line and drove off the left side, striking a trash receptacle and hitting a utility pole, police said.

A female passenger had neck injuries, the report said.

Police said they found a bag of suspected marijuana and a drug pipe in the car. The report said they tested the driver’s blood, and charges are pending based on the results.
