Girard Fraternal Order of Eagles will host a quarter auction at the hall, 26 W. Wilson Ave., at 6 p.m. Saturday, with bidding to begin at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 and includes a numbered paddle and finger foods. Extra paddles are available for $1 each. Advanced sales only for limited seating. Proceeds will benefit an Ohio FOE scholarship fund titled “God, Flag and Country,” in which younger teenagers announce their faith in God and country in competitive speeches. CRAFT SHOWS

Howland Community Church, 198 Niles Cortland Road, Warren, will host a craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is a $2 donation, and children under age 12 are free. Food will be available.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society is hosting the second annual Christmas Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Tyler History Center, 325 West Federal Street, Youngstown. The society is seeking vendors for this show which will be a combination of handmade artisan crafts and holiday treats. Holiday crafters, cookie bakers and candy makers are encouraged to participate. Youngstown Saxon Club Ladies Branch 22 needs vendors for its seventh annual Fall Craft Show that will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the ballroom, 710 S. Meridian Road. DANCES

Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., is offering community dance lessons at 4 p.m. Wednesdays. Each lesson is one hour, and the cost is $5 per lesson. Niles Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Gene Hammond will be the caller, and Frankie Hammond will call line dances. The theme for the dance is Gospel Night. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual, and light refreshments will be served. FUNDRAISERS

Campbell Memorial Marching Band will host a fundraiser by inviting the community on a bus trip to the “Big Apple,” to explore its scenery. Cost is $99 per person. The bus will depart from Campbell Memorial High School at 11 p.m. Dec. 8 and return about 7 a.m. Dec. 10. All seats are on a first-come, first-served basis, and payment is due when reservations are made. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All proceeds benefit the Campbell Band Program. Mahoning Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is announcing “Shop for Honor,” a Veterans Day fundraiser to support local veterans from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Friends Social Hall, 2771 Spitler Road, Poland. Admission is free, and the community is encouraged to attend. Local independent sales consultants and craft vendors will sell products just in time for the holidays. In addition to gifts, there also will be a basket auction and bake sale with a seating area for guests to enjoy desserts and coffee. Patrons do not need to be present to win the basket auction. Piggyback Foundation of Youngstown will sponsor a beer, wine and hard cider tasting event. All funds raised by the event will supply Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, as well as gifts for local families. The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Magic Tree Pub, 7463 South Ave. Tickets are $20 for a flight of six fall beers, wines or hard ciders, guest’s choice. President Charity Foundation of the K. of C. is sponsoring a wine tasting and dinner Nov. 18 at St. Anne’s Parish, 4310 Kirk Road, Youngstown. Recipes of Youngstown group on Facebook is hosting a fall tasting event to honor the Armed Forces and to promote the group’s third cookbook. The “Stars, Stripes & Servings” event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown. More than 30 family dishes will be prepared by bakers whose recipes are included in the new cookbook. A portion of the proceeds from the event and sales of the new cookbook will be used to fund a newly established scholarship at the YSU Foundation to provide assistance to military veterans finishing their education. Shots for Tots will give the 170 bikes that were purchased for the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots organization Nov. 18. Saint Nicholas School will host a quarter auction fundraiser Saturday in the great hall at Christ Our Savior Church, 766 Fifth St., Struthers. Youngstown State University is continuing the YSU lecture series on Energy and the Environment for the fourth academic year. This fall the impacts of fossil fuel take center stage. An open panel discussion moderated by Dr. Ray Beiersdorfer, YSU Geology, “Implications of yesterday’s election for energy and the environment,” will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Room B100 at Cushwa Hall. First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 201 Wick Ave., will host a free community Thanksgiving dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16. Menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetable, cranberry sauce, rolls, dessert and a beverage. Dinner is free and open to the community.

Girard Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary has chosen the USO of Northeastern Ohio as its charity for November. Members and anyone interested are asked to donate baby items, diapers, lotion, baby shampoo, bottles, diaper cream, outfits, blankets (newborn to 6 months) to be given to the USO. The ladies will put together “Baby Sea Bags” and will distribute them to Ohio service members and families who are expecting or have recently added a new member. Sutliff Museum, 444 Mahoning Ave., Warren, has opened a new exhibit that will be open to the public through January 2018. The exhibit is “Musicians and Scholars: the Dana Family of Warren, Ohio.” It explores the origin of the Dana family, through the relationship of the family to the Sutliff family through Phebe Lord Martin Sutliff. Ohio Living Park Vista Senior Center will host a trip to Wheeling Island and festival of lights at Oglebay at 8 a.m. Nov. 15. A snack will be provided and bingo and raffle drawings will take place en route. The bus leaves the center at 8:30 to meet the rest of the group at 9 at Youngstown Skate, 7080 Tiffany Boulevard, Boardman. A $25 casino slot incentive will be given upon arrival. Bus will depart at 4 p.m. to travel to Oglebay to shop and view the festival of lights. Payment is due at registration to reserve your seat.
