Youngstown police continue to investigate a Saturday morning shooting spree at Deja Vu nightclub, 2810 Market St., in which four people were wounded just as the bar was closing around 2:30 a.m.

The victims remained in the hospital in stable condition Saturday night and are expected to recover, police said.

The victims are: Tranica Ahart, 33, shot in the stomach; Adam Perkins, 23, shot in the hip; and Danny Carter, 37, and Antoine Tate, 36, each shot in the leg.

Dr. Rodney Hill, local gynecologist, is the guest speaker for the monthly meeting of the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the W.J. Cobbin Building, 1350 Fifth Ave., Suite 202/Rose Room.

Dr. Hill will talk about the high infant-mortality rates in Ohio and Mahoning County and the efforts to reduce those rates.

Childhood obesity

The William Swanston Charitable Fund is requesting proposals from IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations which address childhood obesity within Mahoning and Trumbull counties for its 2018 grant cycle. Interested grant applicants must submit a letter of inquiry by Dec. 15.

Detailed information, including a form for inquiries, can be found in the Swanston Fund section of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley website, www.cfmv.org.

Organizations with approved inquiries will be notified in February and will be invited to submit a full proposal, due in March. Final grant decisions will be announced in May. KSU Vets Day event

Kent State University will host its annual Veterans Day observance at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kent Student Center Kiva, 1075 Risman Drive.

The program, “Honoring All Who Serve,” will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs on the Student Green at Risman Plaza at 10:30 a.m., remarks from Kent State President Beverly Warren and guest speaker Kevin Lacz.

Lacz is a decorated former U.S. Navy SEAL and author of the New York Times best-selling memoir “The Last Punisher.”

Free parking will be available in the student center visitor parking lot. A reception will follow the brief program in the Kiva lobby.
