Park reopens road
YOUNGSTOWN
Mill Creek MetroParks reopened West Newport Drive between Canfield Road and Hampton Drive.
That section of the road had been closed since early October for a capital improvement project.
The $183,420 project improved stormwater drainage and roadway surface conditions, according to a MetroParks news release.
Improvements included replacement of catch basins and stormwater conduit, linear grading and ditching, resetting historic sandstone curb, pavement planing, new courses of asphalt and pavement marking.
Closed to replace valves
YOUNGSTOWN
Oakwood Avenue from Winchester to North Osborne avenues, and North Dunlap Avenue between Connecticut and Mahoning avenues will be closed for about 60 days starting Friday for the replacement of water system valves. Detours will be set up during the closures.
STEAM program funds
WARREN
The Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics on Friday made a $1,950 donation to the Trumbull County Educational Service Center’s STEAM-Powered Learning program.
STEAM-Powered Learning is a program for students in grades five through eight that meets 15 days during the school year and focuses on the performance arts, mixed-media art, coding and robotics and engineering.
TCESC officials said the donation will be used for curriculum materials.
Trustee meeting canceled
NEWTON FALLS
The special meeting of the Newton Township trustees at 9 a.m. today to discuss outstanding and pending township cemetery issues has been canceled.
Awarded $35K in grants
ROGERS
The Western Reserve Land Conservancy and Dominion Energy were awarded $35,000 in mini grants, which will be distributed to 19 watershed groups in Ohio.
The Little Beaver Creek Wild and Scenic River Advisory Council in Columbiana County received $1,500 for the production of educational materials and events related to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
Ceremonies for veterans
GIRARD
Patriot at Home, a home health care provider based out of Girard, will have pinning ceremonies for veterans in local nursing homes.
On Tuesday, ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. at Community Skilled Nursing Facility, Warren. At 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, ceremonies will be at Cortland Healthcare Center and Beeghly Oaks Center, Boardman.
On Thursday, ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. at Ivy Woods Manor, North Lima, and 2:30 p.m. at Signature Healthcare, Warren, and Oasis Center, Youngstown.
On Friday, ceremonies will be at 9 a.m. at Woodlands at AustinWoods, Austintown; noon at Sunrise Assisted Living, Poland; 2 p.m. Copeland Oaks in Sebring; and 2:30 p.m. at Concord Care Center, Cortland.
