GIRARD

Jaylyn Hoschar,19, faces several charges after police found drug paraphernalia in an apartment where she was staying with her 2-year-old child late Wednesday, according to a report.

Police went to an apartment in the 700 block of North Highland Avenue to check on the welfare of a child. Police were advised a mother, later identified as Hoschar, was said to have been using drugs near her child, the report said.

When police arrived, they knocked on her apartment door, and Hoschar opened the door of the apartment across from them, the report said.

Police tried to talk to Hoschar but she closed the door. Hoschar stated she had no children when police explained they were making a welfare check, the report said.

When making the arrest, Hoschar fell and the officer handcuffed her, although Hoschar was flailing and trying to resist, the report said.

Once Hoschar was secured in the police car, she began kicking and elbowing the windows and temporarily lost consciousness when she banged her head on the car’s divider. An officer said Hoschar smelled of alcohol.

Hoschar was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Her child was found in seemingly good condition and turned over to a relative, the report said. The child’s gender was not listed in the report.

Hoschar is charged with child endangerment, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. Her court date is pending.
