Mercy Health Youngstown created a walk-in sports clinic open Saturdays for injured athletes.
Boardman Orthopaedics offers the clinic in their building. Injured athletes only need to come to the office with photo identification and health insurance to seek treatment.
The clinic has all supplies present the office, including radiology, casting and walking boots.
They only cover orthopedic injuries, such as fractures, strains and dislocations.
Dr. Jeffrey Johnston runs the clinic. Johnston specialized in sports medicine and started his practice a year ago. He had a residency in Cleveland and did his specialization in California. He said the clinic is a good resource to help manage injuries.
Johnston covers injuries in all sports. Recently, he had a patient that suffered injuries while on a trampoline. Most common injuries the clinic deals with are knee injuries, saying that they happen in most sports. They get most patients from contact sports, such as soccer and football.
The walk-in clinic opens Saturdays at 9 a.m. and closes at 11 a.m. The program runs until Nov. 4. This is the first year of the program, but Johnston and his staff would like to offer it in the future.
