Dominion plans to invest $4.27 million in Warren

Dominion Energy Ohio plans to invest $4.27 million to replace a combined 26,056 feet of bare steel pipeline with corrosion-resistant coated steel or plastic line in three separate fall and winter Pipeline Infrastructure Replacement projects within the city.

The projects are part of Dominion East Ohio’s overall PIR program, launched in mid-2008. The $4 billion, 25-year program will involve the eventual replacement of more than 5,500 miles of the company’s 22,000-mile pipeline system.

The first project, scheduled to begin Nov. 13, weather permitting, will replace 2,340 feet of 1943-vintage, bare steel pipeline with coated steel line and 7,425 feet of 1944-vintage bare steel pipeline with medium-density plastic line. The about $1.5 million project will affect portions of Hoyt, Maple, Second, Third and Fourth streets and Hayes and Highland avenues and will include replacement of 143 service lines. Scheduled completion date is March 30.

The second project, scheduled to begin Jan. 2, will replace 2,730 feet of 1953-vintage, bare steel pipeline with coated steel, and 5,582 feet of 1929-vintage bare steel pipeline with medium-density plastic line. The $1.19 million project will affect portions of Highland Avenue Southwest, between Dover Avenue and Fourth Street in the city and Warren Township, and will include replacement of 60 service lines. Scheduled completion date is April 16, weather permitting.

The third project, slated to begin in February, will replace 4,370 feet of 1943-vintage bare steel pipeline with coated steel line and 3,609 feet of 1924-vintage bare steel pipe with medium-density plastic line. The $1.6 million project will affect Tod Avenue and will include replacement of 49 service lines. Projected completion date is in May, weather permitting.

Dominion or its contractors will need to turn off natural-gas service to affected customers for a short time to facilitate replacement of the service lines, which connect company mainlines to customers’ premises. Dominion Energy also will assume responsibility for the service lines, which run from the curb to the company’s meter at customers’ premises.

The company will attempt to notify affected customers 24 to 48 hours before to arrange access. The company may need to perform additional work at customers’ homes or businesses, at no charge, including inspecting and testing any interior service lines; verifying the reading on an inside meter; replacing the service line, which delivers natural gas from the main line to the gas meter, and changing the gas meter.
