The Canfield Village Middle School seventh-grade football team fell to Austintown Middle School 14-8 to finish the season six and one.
The Cardinals took the opening possession 65 yards in nine plays to take an 8-0 lead. Quarterback Broc Lowry hit fullback Dom Marzano in the left flat for a 20-yard gain to the Falcon seven yard line and then found Zach Karas in the back of the end zone for the touchdown. Marzano tacked on the two point conversion on a strike from Lowry.
Canfield drove the ball deep into Falcon territory on their next drive behind the hard running of Ryan Schneider and Caden Kohout. The drive stalled at the Falcon 12-yard line with one minute to go in the first half.
Austintown struck back quickly when their tailback broke several tackles and dashed 88 yards on the next play and then tacked on the conversion to make it 8-8 at halftime. Neither team was able to reach paydirt until the games final play when a Falcon receiver made a leaping grab of a last second “hail mary” toss for the final margin.
