Wonderstruck Artisan Market and Classes hosted a Painting for a Cause event on Oct. 5 to raise money for Austintown Fitch’s concert choir.
The funding went toward the choir’s trip to New York City in April. They received an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall. They will also have a performance at the VA New Jersey Health Care System, a Veterans Affairs health care system in Lyons, New Jersey.
The seniors of the choir said performing at VA health care systems give them “an experience that is bigger than ourselves“ and makes them feel that their “talent has a purpose.“ The choir performs at a similar hospital every year.
The Painting for a Cause class filled up prior to the event. Stephanie Miller, Wonderstruck’s owner, taught the class of 42 adults how to paint a New York City skyline at sunset. Miller’s demonstration painting had “Carnegie Hall April 2018“ on it, reinforcing the reason for the event.
The choir students helped at the event. They ran concessions and directed the painters to the cafeteria.
The concert choir hosts multiple fundraising events throughout the year to help the program and fund their trip. They will have a chili cook-off with the school’s band on Nov. 12 and a Santa’s workshop craft show on Dec. 17. They also have their concert on Dec. 3.
Wonderstruck has numerous Painting for a Cause events throughout the year, usually five to six a month. They also have workshops, classes and parties. More information on their work can be found at http://www.wonderstruckmarket.com.
They have offices on Clingan Road in Poland and Canfield Road in Canfield.
