Boys golf places best in school history

The Boardman boys golf team finished in fifth place at the recent OHSAA Division I Golf State Tournament.

Two years ago, the boys team placed eighth at the state tournament. Last year, they finished in sixth place. This fifth place finish is the best in school history.

The Spartans were tied for fourth place with Lakota East after the first day of the 18-hole competition and shot a team total of 318. Dublin Jerome was leading with 295, Olentangy Liberty was second with 308 and Green was third with 312 strokes. Leading the Spartans were Cole Christman (76), Cade Kreps (80), Brian Terlesky (80), Bryan Kordupel (82) and Bobby Jonda (89).

On the second day of competition, the Spartans shot 312 giving them a team total for the two-day competition of 630. Dublin Jerome held their lead and won the state title with a team total of 607.

Olentangy Liberty shot 616 for second place. Green placed third with 628, Cincinnati St. Xavier shot 629 and the Spartans were close behind with 630. Leading the Spartans on the second day of competition were Cade Kreps (77), Brian Terlesky (78), Cole Christman (78), Bryan Kordupel (79) and Bobby Jonda (89).

The boys team record this year was 19-0 and 68-1 overall the past four years. The Spartans also collected 16 invitational wins over the past four years.

This was Terlesky’s fourth trip to state competition. Kreps, Christman, and Jonda have qualified three years in a row, and Kordupel made his second trip to state competition.
