Arson was cause of blaze that destroyed North Side home early today

YOUNGSTOWN — Investigators said a fire that destroyed an occupied 1683 Juanita Ave. home early today was deliberately set.

Crews arrived just after midnight to find a heavy fire on the side of the North Side home and two people on the roof, who were rescued by a ladder crew. They were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be examined for their injuries.

Reports said debris and construction equipment hampered efforts to fight the fire, and extreme heat and smoke were also present. Damage is listed at $6,800.
