Gun found in stolen car

Gun found in stolen car

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said police found a loaded .40-caliber handgun inside a stolen car they were chasing about 9:35 p.m. Monday.

Officers in the area of East Florida Avenue and Southern Boulevard on the South Side were told to be on the lookout for a stolen car. An officer saw the car stop to pick up a woman from a home on East Florida and drive away before the woman could get in the car.

That officer chased the car across Market Street, where it lost control at West Hillman Avenue and Hillman Street, slid into a garage, traveled through a vacant lot and stopped in front of a home in the 2800 block of Idlewood Avenue. The driver got out and ran away, and police could not find him.

The woman was examined by paramedics and released. The gun was found on the floor on the driver’s side of the car, reports said.

Asked to resign

MECCA

The Ohio Attorney General’s office is asking a Mecca Township woman to resign as fiscal officer after she was accused of purposely failing to perform her fiscal responsibilities.

The Ohio Auditor of State’s office received a Fiscal Integrity Act complaint against Mecca’s fiscal officer, Deborah Drawl, accusing her of making several unexplained financial entries, failing to reconcile the books and failing to complete an annual financial report for 2016.

The auditor’s office referred the matter to the attorney general’s office, which responded by asking Drawl to resign before it proceeded to file a removal action.

If Drawl chooses not to resign, the office will seek her removal by filing a complaint in Trumbull County Common Pleas court.

Commissioners’ agenda

WARREN

The Trumbull County commissioners have two items on their agenda for today’s meeting that come from recommendations made by the county fiscal advisory committee appointed by the commissioners last summer.

One item is for Richard Jackson, county human resources director, to prepare a job description for the combined position of county administrator/purchasing director and to research salary guidelines for the position.

Another item is to authorize enrollment of between 10 and 13 county officials and department heads or their designees in the Lean Ohio Boot Camp for the public sector offered by Kent State University. The program will be conducted in the county administration building four full work days.

The goal of the training is to make government simpler, faster, better and less costly, according to the commissioners’ agenda.

Cost per participant is $1,398.

Child-endangering plea

WARREN

Melissa A. Altenburg, 40, of Tod Avenue Southwest, pleaded guilty Monday to felony child endangering for failing to protect a girl who told her she had been raped.

Altenberg’s charge is related to six counts of rape filed against her son, Richard O. Robson, 19, also of the Tod Avenue address.

Diane Barber, assistant county prosecutor, said Altenburg was charged because the girl told Altenburg several times Robson was sexually assaulting her, and Altenburg did nothing about it.

Robson’s indictment accuses him of raping the girl starting last September and continuing into January.

Albenberg will be sentenced after the county adult probation department conducts a pre-sentence investigation into Altenburg’s background. She could get several years in prison.
