Would-be dollar store thief strikes manager, gets away

YOUNGSTOWN — Reports said the manager of the Dollar General at 3309 Mahoning Ave. on the West Side was hit several times about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday by a man who left the store without paying for several items.

The manager followed the man outside and confronted him about leaving without paying and the man hit the manager several times, threatened the manager and left but he dropped his items as he ran away, reports said.

Police searched the area but could not find the man, reports said.
