“Wonder Woman” opens this week in movie theaters. To get ready for the latest superhero

“Wonder Woman” opens this week in movie theaters. To get ready for the latest superhero film, here are a few facts from imdb.com:

v First in a while: “Wonder Woman” is the first female dominant superhero film in 12 years, since “Elektra” (2005).

v Considered: Cobie Smulders was briefly considered for the role of Wonder Woman. Smulders went on to voice the character in the “The Lego Movie” (2014) and also appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Agent Maria Hill.

v Another first: Patty Jenkins is the first woman to direct a superhero film with a female protagonist.

v Earlier possibilities: Kate Beckinsale, Sandra Bullock, Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jessica Biel, Eva Green, Christina Hendricks Kristen Stewart, Olga Kurylenko and Elodie Yung were considered to play the role of Wonder Woman throughout the years.

v Carter cameo: There were several campaigns and arrangements for the first live-action Wonder Woman Lynda Carter to have a cameo appearance in this film, but they were unable to manage it due to her schedule of singing for cabarets.

“America’s Got Talent” (8 p.m., NBC): The summer’s hottest reality series returns for its 12th season and, as usual, you never really know what you’re going to see up on that stage (a piano-playing chicken?). There is one major change: Nick Cannon is out as host and Tyra Banks is in. The charismatic former model will usher us through all the stupendous – and ridiculous – acts as judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel render their verdicts.

“Animal Kingdom” (9 p.m., TNT): As “Animal Kingdom” returns for its second season, the Cody crime clan is in the midst of a high-adrenaline heist. But when things don’t go as planned, the family dynamics become more fractured than ever.

“World of Dance” (10 p.m., NBC): And you thought TV had enough dance competitions. Nope. Jennifer Lopez, Derek Hough and NE-YO are our judges for “World of Dance,” a new series that brings elite contestants together to compete in “epic battles of artistry, precision and athleticism.”

“frontline: BEING MORTAL” (10:30 P.M., PBS): Writer and surgeon Atul Gawande examines how doctors care for terminally ill patients.
