The city school district is providing four STEM summer-camp opportunities this summer, all at the Chaney Campus, 731 S. Hazelwood Ave.
Breakfast, lunch and busing will be provided, and there is no charge to students or their families.
Students in third-, fifth-, seventh- and eighth-grade who must participate in mandated summer school cannot participate in the STEM camps.
The camps are as follows:
Invention Project, for sixth-through ninth-graders and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through June 9. It aims to empower the next generation of innovators by exploring the results of turning ideas into inventions and bringing those inventions to market. Call 800-968-4332 to register.
Camp Invention is for rising third-through fifth-graders and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 12 to 16. At Camp Invention, children are presented with fun, hands-on challenges that encourage creative problem-solving, teamwork, entrepreneurship and innovation.
Camp Invention is led by experienced local educators, and new curriculum is introduced each year, inspired by the inductees to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Call 800-968-4332 to register.
Techie Camp for rising sixth-through eighth-graders will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 12 through 16. The goal of Techie Camp is to engage students in activities that can stimulate a deeper interest in technology as well as provide opportunities for them to express their imaginations.
Students will be using Unity to learn the basic concepts of programming through creating video games and interactive stories. To register, contact STEM Coordinator Pam Lubich at 330-744-8827, or pamela.lubich@youngstown.k12.oh.us.
Biz 3D for rising 10th- through 12th-grade students will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 19 to 23. Biz 3D provides an introduction to additive manufacturing with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and business approaches to 3-D printing.
