Legal aid for veterans

Community Legal Aid will host its next Youngstown clinic for veterans from 9 a.m. to noon June 7 at 2031 Belmont Ave.

Kids’ day camp set

Higgins Reardon Funeral Homes and Zion Lutheran Church will sponsor the third annual Stepping Stones to a Better Tomorrow Day Camp for Kids and Teens from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8-9 at the church, 3300 Canfield Road, and from noon to 4 p.m. June 10. A location for June 10 is yet to be determined.

Learn about wildlife
CANFIELD
Ohio certified volunteer naturalists will teach the public how to identify wildlife in the area and how to properly interact with orphaned or injured animals June 21.
Jamey Emmert of the Ohio Division of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife will show participants how to handle conflict animals, as well as how to help animals in distress.
The event will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ohio State University Mahoning County Extension Office, 490 S. Broad St. Registration is free, but space is limited so reservations are required. To register, stop in at the extension office or call 330-533-5538.
Head Start gets grant
YOUNGSTOWN
Alta Head Start, which offers educational, disability and nutrition services for students in Mahoning County, was awarded a $35,000 grant from the William Swanston Charitable Fund.
The grant will enable the program to continue to provide nutritional snacks to children in their Head Start/Early Head Start classes. The children and their families will also receive enhanced nutrition education.
Alta Head Start operates 10 sites in the county. The William Swanston Charitable Fund is a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
Road work ahead
LISBON
Work will begin June 5 to extend the pavement life on more than 4 miles of state Route 164 north of state Route 517, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced. As a preservation treatment, Route 164 will be chip sealed from Township Road 859 to County Road 440. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The project cost is $258,000.
