The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association will have regular museum hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of each month through September at its Marter Yard, 1340 Poland Ave.

Rebuilding pool

New Castle, Pa.

The United Way of Lawrence County will be rebuilding Cascade Park Swimming Pool along with various community partners such as Penn Power, Columbia Gas, IBEW Local 712 and Lawrence County Career and Technical Center students.

They will periodically need help from the public with debris and general cleaning and basic construction. Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 5.

Work will be assisting on the bathhouse, prepping the roof and clearing the facility to begin the renovations. A light breakfast will be offered at 8 a.m. and donated pizza will be provided for lunch.

Church groups, clubs and anyone interested in helping restore the facility are encouraged to sign up and spread the word. For information or to register, call United Way at 724-658-8528.

Gardens’ big crowds

Fellows Riverside Gardens nearly broke its visitation record in April and is on track to break its May record, Mill Creek MetroParks reported. More than 32,000 people visited the gardens at the start of the spring season, just 69 people shy of the record set in 2014.

Aaron Young, executive director, said his goal is to grow that number even more.

Taking food orders

NILES

New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., will accept orders for King Foods with cash, check, money order or EBT card from 11 a.m. to noon June 12.

Orders also will be taken at Niles Community Services, 401 Vienna Ave., No. 2, from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Box prices range from $22 to $45. There are no income restrictions or guidelines.

Mail orders will be accepted with payment by June 9. Send payment to New Hope UM Church, 21 Fairview Ave., Niles 44446, made payable to New Hope UM Church. To receive a receipt, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Online credit-card orders will be taken through 10 a.m. June 14. To order online, visit www.kingfoods.org.

Distribution will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. June 24. There will be a free community breakfast served from 8 to 9:30 a.m. that day, and the clothing room will be open.
