LEADERSHIP

Chosen as a KSU dean

David Dees, Ph.D., of Guilford Lake, has been selected to serve as dean and chief administrative officer of the Kent State University Columbiana County campuses.

He will provide overall leadership of Kent State University at East Liverpool and Kent State University at Salem, two of the regional campuses in the university’s eight-campus system.

Dees serves as interim dean of the Columbiana County campuses, a position he has had since July 1, 2016. He will begin serving as the permanent dean June 1.

Dees joined Kent State in 1991. Before serving as interim dean of Kent State’s Columbiana County campuses, he served as director of Kent State’s Center for Teaching and Learning since 2013.

He earned his doctorate in cultural foundations of education at Kent State. He has a master’s degree in theatre and a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Kentucky.

Mount Union director

Andy Bain, Ph.D, assistant professor of criminal justice, has been named the director of criminal justice studies at the University of Mount Union.

Bain, a native of the United Kingdom, was hired at the university in 2013 as a member of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. Before joining Mount Union, Bain worked as the course leader for criminology with psychology at the University of Portsmouth.

He earned a doctor of philosophy degree in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Portsmouth; a post-graduate diploma in psychology from Open University, Milton Keynes; a master of science degree in criminal justice studies from University of Portsmouth; and a bachelor’s degree in sociology/psychology from Southampton University.

HONORS

Diversity award

Monica Jones, dean/principal at Youngstown Early College, is the recipient of Youngstown State University’s Beeghly College of Education’s Diversity Alumni Award.

Under Jones’ leadership, YEC has a 100 percent four-year graduation rate, topping all other urban high schools in Ohio.

Jones earned her bachelor’s degree at Ohio University and her master’s in education at YSU.
