Fitch High band is selected for national parade

AUSTINTOWN

The Austintown Fitch Marching Band has been selected to perform in the 2018 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington, D.C., on April 14.

The event, which draws about 1.2 million people, will be shown on national television. The school’s application included a video of the band in a parade performance.

“This parade is a great honor,” said band director Wes O’Connor. He said he believes the band’s strong military-style marching helped it get selected for the performance.

In recent years, the band has marched in the NATO Festival of Nations Parade in Norfolk, Va.; the Pegasus Parade for the Kentucky Derby; and last year’s Festival of Characters Parade in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World.
