Residents at the Commons at Greenbriar took a virtual tour of places around the world using virtual reality goggles on April 18.

Activities director Meghan Miller set up a virtual reality demonstration for the residents to take part in. They could ride a roller coaster at Cedar Point, look at the Eiffel Tower and explore the Milky Way Galaxy.

Before they started the demonstration, Miller asked each of the residents where they wanted to visit. There were answers ranging from Paris to the moon.

None of the residents had used virtual reality goggles and were excited to try something new. Paul was the first resident to volunteer to go and he decided to ride a roller coaster at Cedar Point. The virtual reality glasses showed a 360-degree view of the different scenarios depending on which way the person moved their head.

Only those wearing the glasses could see the environment, but the sounds were loud enough for the others in the room to hear.

Several residents described the experience as “wonderful” and “fun.” Some of the ones who decided to experience the roller coaster used their hands to reenact like they were actually on a roller coaster and made comments of what they were able to see all around them as they rode the coaster.

While one resident was using the goggles, the others would have them describe what they were feeling and what all they could see. The demonstration made for a fun afternoon for the residents as they were able to try something new together.
