New president at Farmers Trust

CANFIELD

Farmers Trust Co. on Thursday announced the appointment of David Dastoli to president of the company, effective June 1. Dastoli will now lead the operations, services and management of more than $1 billion in trust assets for clients throughout a nine-county footprint in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

Dastoli joined the staff of Farmers Trust Co. in March 2012 as a senior portfolio manager. Since then, he has been promoted to chief investment officer in April 2014 and most recently to interim president in April 2017.

Apprenticeship applications

LORDSTOWN

Applications for United Auto Workers/General Motors skilled-trade apprenticeships will be accepted from midnight June 23 through midnight June 30. The apprenticeships are only open to internal candidates.

The UAW/GM skilled trades include occupations in these areas: electrical, mechanical and engineering/die making trades. More information on the trades is available during the application process.

Hospital fundraising

AKRON

Giant Eagle kicked off its annual fundraising campaign to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital. Now through June 21, Giant Eagle customers at 26 Akron locations and 12 Mahoning Valley locations can make a donation at the register to support cancer and blood disorder patients at Akron Children’s.

Akron area Giant Eagle locations have been participating in the annual fundraiser since 2011, but this is the first year the campaign has expanded to the Mahoning Valley.

Since the partnership began, Giant Eagle has raised nearly $500,000 for cancer and blood disorder patients at Akron Children’s.

Call center jobs

COLUMBUS

State Reps. Michele Lepore-Hagan of Youngstown, D-38th, and John Boccieri of Poland, D-59th, this week announced the introduction of House Bill 245, legislation to protect Ohio’s call center jobs by incentivizing certain employers to keep their jobs here in Ohio instead of outsourcing operations overseas. The House lawmakers were joined by Sen. Minority Leader Kenny Yuko Richmond Heights, D-25th, and Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Boardman. D-33rd, who introduced companion legislation in the senate, and members of the Communications Workers of America.

OPEC extends cut

VIENNA

An alliance of many of the world’s biggest oil-producing nations extended their agreement to cut output for an additional nine months.

Thursday’s decision by the OPEC cartel and 10 other countries led by Russia, means that the reductions of 1.8 million barrels a day agreed on in November will stay in place until March.
