BEREA

The Browns have hired former Indianapolis general manager Ryan Grigson as a senior personnel executive.

Grigson was with Indianapolis from 2012-16, and helped the Colts win two AFC South titles and make the playoffs three times. He was named the NFL’s top executive in 2012 by Sporting News.

Goodall among Mount Union players honored

ALLIANCE

Mount Union sophomore pitcher Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was named the Mideast Region Pitcher of the Year by both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com.

Mary and junior center fielder Billy Goodall (South Range) were also All-Mideast Region First Team selections on both teams.

Both players were All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team selections in leading the Purple Raiders to a single-season record for wins and its first regular season conference title since 1970.

Goodall was the first-ever Mount Union player to earn the Dr. Bob Fisher OAC Player of the Year since the award began in 1978.

The Raiders center fielder led the conference with a .454 batting average and 25 stolen bases. His .454 batting average is best in a season for Mount Union hitter since All-American Chris Tucker hit .475 in 2000 and his 25 stolen bases helped the Raiders set a team single season record 114 steals. He also tied an OAC Tournament record with five hits in a single game and was named to the OAC All-Tournament Team.

Man United beats Ajax to win Europa League

STOCKHOLM

Manchester United gave its grieving home city a moment to cheer by winning the Europa League on Wednesday, beating Ajax 2-0 in the final thanks to goals by Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Pogba pointed to the sky as he was mobbed by teammates after his 18th-minute opening goal. The game was played two days after 22 people were killed in a bomb attack at a concert in Manchester, and 12 days after the death of Pogba’s father, Fassou Antoine.

Mkhitaryan scored the second goal in the 48th minute, hooking the ball in from close range from a corner.

The win earned United the bonus prize of a place in next season’s Champions League and meant coach Jose Mourinho finished his first season at England’s biggest club with two trophies.
