Task force discussion

WARREN

Two of the Ashtabula County commissioners met with two of the Trumbull County commissioners and Sheriff Paul Monroe Wednesday to discuss whether Ashtabula County will continue to participate in the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force.

The Ashtabula commissioners voted April 25 to terminate the contract it had with TAG and announced that it was forming its own task force following Monroe’s decision to replace Jeff Orr as TAG commander with Tony Villanueva.

But Nick Iarocci, Ashtabula County prosecutor, told Monroe May 11 that he and a representative from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s office would ask the Ashtabula commissioners to rescind that decision.

Monroe urged Ashtabula County commissioners Casey Kozlowski and Kathryn Whittington Wednesday to allow him to submit the next grant application on Friday with Ashtabula County as a partner so that he could meet the application deadline.

Criminal charges

WARREN

James E. Ashby, 47, of state Route 303 in Windham, is charged with burglary, possession of criminal tools and possession of drug paraphernalia in a Tuesday incident on Maplewood Street Northeast.

When officers arrived at 7:32 p.m. for a burglar alarm, an officer observed a man running from the front of the home.

Officers chased the man on Edgewood and Atlantic streets, catching him in the 1700 block of Atlantic and taking him into custody.

Officers found a crack pipe and a computer tablet in Ashby’s pockets. Ashby was treated at St. Joseph Warren Hospital for cuts on his arms and hands that either occurred during or before the chase, police said.

The owner of the Maplewood address said later that the computer tablet belonged to her.
