A township woman faces criminal charges after reportedly suffering a drug overdose in November.
Kimberly Ramun, 40, of Angiline Drive was arrested Monday on warrants charging her with endangering children, possessing drug-abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges stem from a Nov. 1 incident in which police and emergency and medical responders were called to Ramun’s home for a suspected overdose.
There, a woman reported she had found Ramun unresponsive on a bedroom floor. A 9-year-old was present at the time of the overdose.
Ramun was revived with several doses of naloxone, a medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.
Police reported finding syringes, a burnt spoon, and medical gauze sitting on a dresser in Ramun’s bedroom.
Reached by The Vindicator on Tuesday, Ramun declined to comment.
Her arrest is the third in several days by township police for similar incidents.
Police on Friday arrested Kristina Green, 28, of Hillman Way on charges related to an overdose she reportedly suffered in November at Steak n’ Shake.
On Sunday, police arrested Patrick Altier, 28, of Youngstown on an inducing-panic charge that stems from an overdose he reportedly suffered April 28.
The Ohio chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union recently called on law-enforcement agencies to stop charging overdose victims in such instances, saying overdoses should be treated as a health issue rather than a criminal one.
Ohio’s Good Samaritan Law shields overdose victims and those who call 911 for them from misdemeanor drug-possession charges if they meet certain criteria.
Boardman police have said they file criminal charges after overdoses whenever charges are appropriate.
