Students get prizes Wednesday in TAG-sponsored contest

HOWLAND — Students at Howland, Bristol and Mathews high schools will receive prizes Wednesday for producing the top three entries in a public-service-announcement contest sponsored by the drug-fighting Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force.

Howland wins $1,000 for an entry called “Should We Spell It Out For You?” It features Howland students, emergency-medical technicians, a family member of an overdose victim and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Bristol High School students win $250, and Mathews students win a pizza-and-pop party.

The contest serves as a public awareness campaign educating communities, youth and parents about the health and safety risks involved in using drugs. TAG asked students to focus their message on heroin, prescription pills and/or marijuana abuse, “as they are the chief drugs having the biggest adverse impact on our youth.”
