The Lordstown Board of Public Affairs will have a special meeting at 3 p.m. today at the Lordstown Administration Building, 1455 Salt Springs Road.

Man accused in theft

CANFIELD

Police have accused a Youngstown man of stealing $2,300 from his employer.

The owner at Needatt Auto & Powersports, 530 W. Main St., told police he arrived in his office May 16 and found glass was broken out of the door to his office and an envelope containing $2,300 in cash was missing. A surveillance video reportedly showed Stephen Hogan, 47, of Youngstown, breaking the glass in the door with a cinderblock. Hogan worked at Needatt, and the owner had paid him out of that envelope.

Hogan is charged with breaking and entering and theft.

Gunfire reported

AUSTINTOWN

Residents at an Edgehill Avenue home were awakened by gunfire late Sunday night.

A woman living in the house said she was asleep in the living room with her 7- and 14-year-old sons when they heard gunshots and saw flashes of light out the front window. Her 8- and 12-year-old children were sleeping upstairs with her 18-month-old grandchild.

Police observed bullet holes in the front door and along the front side of the house. They also recovered a .22-caliber shell casing.

Reading of the Names

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University will host its annual Reading of the Names ceremony, remembering YSU employees and students who died while on active military duty, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Veterans Plaza on campus.

YSU’s annual Armed Forces Appreciation Luncheon, by invitation only, will follow in the north lobby of Beeghly Center on campus.

Roundtable discussion

The Rev. David J. Bergner will provide an overview and update of the refugee crisis in Syria at the Dorothy Day House, 620 Belmont Ave., from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday. The roundtable discussion is open to the community.

Joint meeting

WARREN

The Warren City Council’s finance chairman, Eddie Colbert, and Police and Fire chairman, Alford Novak, have called a joint meeting at 5 p.m. today.

The meeting will take place in the council caucus room at the municipal justice building, 141 South St. SE.

Students to get glasses

YOUNGSTOWN

Twenty-six Taft Elementary students will be fitted for eyeglasses at school at 9 a.m. today thanks to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s Success After 6 program.

The United Way teamed up with Sight for All, Classic Optical Laboratories, Essilor Vision Foundation, Modern Optical International and Opticians Association of Ohio to provide children with free eye exams and glasses.

The doctors involved in this project are Sergul Erzurum, Eye Care Associates and president of Sight for All; Michael Woloschak, Michael J. Woloschak, Inc.; Robert Gaetano, Vision Care Associates; Robin Maceyko, Eye Catchers Optical; Peter Sforza, Peter E. Sforza Jr. O.D.; Brad Bloomberg, Bloomberg Eyecare; Brian Mathie, Roholt Vision Institute; and Nicholas Lawrence, Roholt Vision Institute.

House searched

WARREN

Former high-profile Valley defense attorney Maridee Costanzo’s 155 Genessee Ave. NE home was the site of a multi-agency search Friday, reports 21-WFMJ TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Authorities from Geauga, Trumbull and Portage counties say they were looking for more than $100,000 worth of stolen antiques and historic artifacts from another residence. Costanzo was charged with receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony after the search.

Three other suspects were arrested on fourth-degree felony charges of receiving stolen property.
