TENNIS

Division I

Canfield junior Tim Cianciola qualified for next week’s state tournament in Mason by finishing fifth at the district tournament at Springside Racquet & Fitness Club in Akron. Cianciola defeated Highland’s Isaac Hadler (6-4, 6-2) and Brecksville’s Aaron Yeh (6-0, 7-5). The top six competitors earned state trips.

TRACK AND FIELD

Division II

Girard hurdler Emily Marsico won the 100 hurdles and 300n hurdles at the district meet at Lakeview High School. The Niles 4x200 relay team (Emma Reed, Bella Sergi, Halli Petillo, Kyndia Matlock) won and Petillo won the 400. Girard’s Makayla Trebella was the 800 winner as did Lakeview’s 4x400 squad (Rachel Braunegg, Jordan Roper, Lindsay Carnahan) Mara Wilson. In the boys competition, Cardinal Mooney’s 4x100 relay team (Justin Parkins, Luke, Pecchia, Nico Marchionda, Syied Bowers) won as did Lakeview hurdler Jatise Garrison in the 300 hurdles. Girard’s Mike Belcik won the 880 and Derek Basinger won the 3200. Champion’s 4x100 relay team (Cole Davis, Noah Bayus, Carter Mast, Alex Lagras) won and Bayus was the long jump winner.
