Woman indicted on theft charge

CANFIELD

A Mahoning County grand jury indicted a Salem woman on a theft charge after she was accused of taking her sister’s jewelry to support the woman’s drug habit, according to a report.

In February, a woman told police she suspected her sister, Dana Landis, 53, of West Garfield Road, had been stealing jewelry from her Canfield home since early December.

Landis made 14 sales to a pawn shop totaling $6,250, according to the report.

Landis told police she took jewelry because of her addiction to prescription pain medication, which she said started after back surgery eight years ago.

Her attorney and the victims told police they hoped Landis would be able to successfully complete drug court.

AUSTINTOWN

Two separate incidents resulted in charges for theft of steaks from the Giant Eagle at 5220 Mahoning Ave.

Jeffrey Anglin, 32, of New Middletown, is accused of concealing $134 worth of rib eye steaks in his hoodie. He was stopped as he left the store without paying Thursday morning, police said.

Anglin had been accused of using heroin in a police cruiser Wednesday, and he failed to appear for his court hearing.

That afternoon, Jeffrey Shorter, 48, of Youngstown, was stopped after reportedly trying to leave with $140 worth of steaks concealed in his jacket.

He was with Sylvia Rogers, 51, of Youngstown, who police said was trying to leave with $100 of shrimp in her purse.

All three are scheduled to appear Monday for a hearing in Mahoning County Area Court.

A man who crashed his vehicle on a township road early Friday was revived by paramedics with an opioid-overdose antidote.

Christopher Levine, 25, of Lowellville, reportedly was driving down New Castle Road about 6:30 a.m. when he crossed the center line, veered into a ditch and hit a fence, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Levine was administered four doses of naloxone at the scene and was taken to an area hospital. He did not sustain injuries in the crash.

Levine was cited for operating a vehicle while impaired, failure to control and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the patrol.
