YOUNGSTOWN
The Simply Slavic Festival is seeking applicants for its academic scholarship.
Undergraduate students at Youngstown State University who have completed their freshman year and are enrolled at YSU are encouraged to apply for the $500 scholarship.
All applicants will be required to submit a 500-word essay on how being Slavic affects your life.
Applicants need to be able to substantiate they are of at least 25 percent Slavic heritage.
Funds can be used for scholarships as well as applied to study abroad programs.
“Our scholarship program is our way to encourage our hometown students,” said Dave Slanina, Simply Slavic treasurer. “Our recipients are the most promising of our heritage’s next generation so we want to help them and get them excited about their background.”
A panel of members of the Simply Slavic organizing committee will select the winners after reviewing the essays, overall academic achievement, faculty recommendations and involvement in their culture.
The deadline for to submit an application is June 16. The winners will be announced at the organizational committee’s appreciation dinner in July.
Applications are available at simplyslavic.org.
