John Pugel and the former Hermina Perechlin celebrated their 71st anniversary April 27. The couple were married in 1946, and lived in Girard for 40 years in the home that John built. They reside with their daughter, Brenda Kovach, and their granddaughter, Dr. Corie L. Kovach. They also have a son, John T., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Pugel, also known as Mina, will be 90 in June, and her husband, also known as Pipe, will be 105 in December. She was a homemaker, a telephone operator, florist at Higley’s in Niles and a butcher’s assistant at Rostan’s Supermarket in Girard.

Mr. Pugel retired from Republic Steel Corp. in Youngstown. He is a U.S. Army veteran and served as a military policeman during WWII.
