Indians 5, Astros 3

HOUSTON

Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run homer and Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall had solo shots to help Cleveland. Trevor Bauer (4-4) continued his dominance against Houston, yielding five hits and three runs while fanning a season-high nine in 52/3 innings to improve to 7-0 in seven career starts against the Astros. Encarnacion’s home run off Charlie Morton (5-3) tied it at 2-all in the fourth and Kipnis gave the Indians the lead with his home run in the fifth. Chisenhall made it 4-2 with his homer in the sixth before Carlos Correa got Houston within 1 with a home run in the bottom of that inning. Chisenhall sent home another run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth that pushed the lead to 5-3.

Rangers 5, Tigers 3

DETROIT

Mike Napoli and Joey Gallo hit homers, giving Texas enough offense to hold on for a 10th straight victory. Nick Martinez (1-2) gave up one unearned run and four hits over five innings, ending an 11-start winless streak that dated to Aug. 5, 2015. Matt Bush earned his fifth save in six chances.

Rays 5, Yankees 4

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.

Evan Longoria got four hits, including a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning for Tampa Bay. Longoria began the game in an 0-for-12 rut. His go-ahead hit came with two outs after Tyler Clippard (0-2) walked two and struck out a pair. Danny Farquhar (2-1) induced an inning-ending double play from Aaron Judge in the eighth before Alex Colome got three outs to pick up his 11th save.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Phillies 7, Pirates 2

PITTSBURGH

Jeremy Hellickson allowed just two hits over six innings before leaving with an injury and Philadelphia pulled away to end a four-game losing streak. Hellickson (5-1) struck out two and walked one, retiring 16 of the final 17 batters he faced to win for the first time in more than three weeks. He left after grabbing his right side while running out an RBI double in the seventh. Maikel Franco and Freddy Galvis had two hits each for the Phillies. Cameron Rupp added a three-run homer in the ninth to give Philadelphia’s struggling bullpen plenty of breathing room. Josh Bell had two of Pittsburgh’s four hits. Trevor Williams (2-3) pitched effectively for five innings before the Phillies got to him in the sixth to take the lead.

Rockies 12, Reds 6

CINCINNATI

Alexi Amarista hit a three-run homer and a run-scoring single during an eight-run rally to extend the Rockies’ best start in their history. The Rockies lead the NL in wins at 27-16, their best mark through 43 games. Amarista’s three-run shot off Lisalverto Bonilla (0-2) sparked the big sixth-inning rally. Nolan Arenado had a two-run homer off Wandy Peralta. Amarista kept it going with an RBI single during his second at-bat in the inning, matching his career high with four RBIs. Colorado sent 14 batters to the plate and piled up nine hits overall.

Brewers 6, Cubs 3

CHICAGO

Jett Bandy and Domingo Santana hit two-run singles, helping the surging Milwaukee Brewers to a rain-interrupted victory. On an afternoon with a 46-degree temperature and 37 wind-chill at the start, Bandy walked and scored on Orlando Arcia’s bases-loaded infield single for a 4-3 lead in the fifth. The game was delayed 1 hour, 59 minutes in the top of the sixth, and Santana boosted the lead with his single just after the delay.

Braves 7, Nationals 4

ATLANTA

Nick Markakis hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning and Kurt Suzuki added a two-run homer. With one out in the eighth, Enny Romero (2-2) walked Brandon Phillips, who then stole second base. Markakis lined a single and Phillips scored on a head-first slide as right fielder Bryce Harper’s throw skipped past Matt Wieters. Suzuki drove in three runs on two hits, including an RBI double off Gio Gonzalez in the fifth for a 4-all tie. Arodys Vizcaino (2-1) recorded three straight outs, two on strikeouts, in the eighth. Jim Johnson pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save.

INTERLEAGUE

Mets 3, Angels 0

NEW YORK

Jacob deGrom dominated until dealing with discomfort in his throwing hand in the seventh, then escaped a no-out, bases-loaded jam that inning to help New York snap a seven-game losing streak. The Mets avoided their first eight-game skid since losing 11 straight in 2004. After multiple visits by Mets coaches and a trainer, DeGrom survived the seventh with a strikeout, a juggling catch by shortstop Jose Reyes and Cameron Maybin’s flyout. Jerry Blevins got two outs in his major league-leading 25th appearance, Paul Sewald recorded an out in the eighth and Addison Reed pitched the ninth for his fifth save.
