Artist Maple Turner at gala fundraiser

YOUNGSTOWN

A gala event featuring Youngstown-born artist Maple Turner III will take place June 3 at 6 p.m. on the third floor of the Knox Building, 110 W. Federal St. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at eventbrite.com. Proceeds will benefit the Northwoods Golf Academy program of the Ebony Ladies and Youth Foundation.

The event will be a unique cultural experience, with live music, fine foods and visual art.

While Turner’s extensive body of work is very diverse, the show will concentrate on the theme “The Gilded Age.” The term refers to the era between the Civil War and the turn of the century, a period that in many ways reflects the current day.

Providing music at the event will be a string quartet led by Youngstown Symphony Orchestra bassist Jeff Bremer. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Chandra Walker, with fresh flowers and a chocolate table courtesy of Doris Turner.

YWCA seeks art donations for sale

YOUNGSTOWN

YWCA of Youngstown is seeking donations of original art for a sale to take place during the Women Artists: A Celebration! annual art exhibition.

Pieces should measure 5 by 7 inches, and be light weight and stiff enough not to bend. Any artist, male or female, age 18 or older may contribute. Artists should affix artist’s name, address, title of work, and medium to back. Artwork must be received by June 14. Pieces may be dropped off at the YWCA administrative office, or mailed to YWCA of Youngstown, 25 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, Ohio 44503.
