Beeghly Oaks Center for Rehabilitation and Healing residents got a taste of mother nature during their Earth Day celebration on April 21.

The residents started out their morning with an Earth Day word puzzle while Beeghly Oaks Director of Concierge Services Carol Zeigler got the ingredients for the dirt dessert together. After the residents finished their puzzles, they prepared to make their dirt dessert.

The first step was to smash up a chocolate cookie that would represent the dirt. Zeigler joked that smashing the cookies was a good way for the residents to relieve stress as they passed out the cookies. After the cookies were made into crumbles, there was pudding passed out that represented the dirt. The residents poured their cookie dirt into the pudding and then were able to enjoy their dirt dessert.

As the residents ate their dessert, they went around the table each saying what the Earth means to them. There were answers about Mother Nature, freedom, stability and a variety of other answers.

To keep the Earth Day celebration going, the residents had the opportunity to watch a drum circle later in the afternoon. They listened and danced along as the musicians performed different songs on their drums.

The Beeghly Oaks Center works to put together events for their residents that brings in members of the community to celebrate something special.
