Man indicted for North Side murder

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

A Mahoning County grand jury indicted a man in an April murder on the North Side. Jermaine Tubbs, 26, of Potomac Avenue, faces charges of murder with a firearm specification and being a felon in possession of a firearm for the April 10 shooting death of Michael Brooks, 52, on Dupont Street.

Police said Brooks was the stepfather of Tubbs’ girlfriend. Brooks and the woman were arguing at a Dupont Street apartment, and Brooks came to pick up his stepdaughter.

Brooks and Tubbs then argued before Brooks was shot, police said. He ran into some nearby woods that day but surrendered to police the next day. He has been in the Mahoning County jail since his arrest.

Also indicted Thursday was Kenneth Law, 53, of Poland, who faces two counts of tampering with records, theft, five counts of failure to remit sales tax and two counts of engaging in business with a suspended vendor’s license.

An indictment said Law, doing business as Performa Advanced Print Solutions, did not submit sales tax from 2011 to 2016 and he tampered with records to try to cover it up.
