With some sunshine peaking through the clouds, C.H. Campbell Elementary School students celebrated the school’s annual Beach Day on April 13.

In the cafeteria, which was decorated with beach balls hanging from the ceiling, tables were cleared away and students enjoyed a picnic-style lunch on their own beach towels and blankets.

The students were able to dress in brightly-colored beachwear for the day. Many students got into the spirit of the day by wearing shorts, sun hats, sunglasses, Hawaiian shirts, Hawaiian leis, straw hats, baseball hats, swim trunks, visors, hula skirts and some even had flowers in their hair.

“Beach Day brings in Spring for us. It marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The kids enjoy it because they get to wear clothes they usually aren’t permitted to wear, so they like that. Any break from their regular routine, and the chance to sit on the floor to eat lunch, is really fun for them,” said CHC Principal Travis Lavery.

In addition to decorating the cafeteria, the PTO provided popsicles for the children as a special treat to enjoy after they had eaten lunch.

Following lunch, the students soaked up as much sunshine as they could during recess on the school’s playground.
