Boys track takes first at Crusader Relays

The Boardman boys track team traveled to the Crusader Relays this on May 13 at Massillon Perry High School and placed first overall.

The Spartans placed first in 10 of the 15 events in the meet, starting with a first place finish by senior George Wallace and junior Steven Amstutz in the shot put relay. Wallace teamed up with junior Zach David and placed first in the discus relay as well.

On the track, the Spartan 4x1600 team of seniors Chris Butler, Nick Digiacomo and Dominic Eorio, along with freshman Mitchel Dunham, placed first. Freshman Brian Yauger won the 110 hurdles and sophomore Eri Ojewale placed first in the 200 hurdles. The Distance Medley Relay of Butler, Digiacomo and juniors David Bader and Jacob Kimble placed first. Winning the 4x200 was the team of Ojewale, senior Sheldon Broyles and juniors Billy Cammack and John Fleet. Dunham won the 1500-meter run. The 4x800 team of Butler, senior Koby Adu-Poku and sophomores Payton Torres and Trevor Boggess placed first. Finally, the 4x400 was won by the team of Ojewale, Fleet, junior Justice Jama and sophomore Josh Rodriguez.

“This meet was a lot of fun for our kids,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips. “It is nice to travel and compete against other teams from different parts of Ohio-this meet will only make us better for post-season.”
