Veterans Service commissioner speaks at meeting of Struthers Rotary

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Jan C. Brown, Mahoning Valley commissioner for the Veterans Service Commission, was the speaker for the Struthers Rotary meeting April 4. Brown retired from active duty in the U.S. Air Force in 2000. She explained VSC offers expert assistance to veterans, families and surviving spouses in the county. The commission was founded more than 100 years ago and maintains a budget of $2.2 million to assist veterans with financial aid, burial, transportation, Veterans Affairs claims, nursing homes and utilities. VSC also assists children of deceased or severely disabled veterans by connecting them with the Ohio War Orphans scholarship and other state benefits.
