Despite the closure of its Warren campus, the Eastern Gateway Community College board of trustees is anticipating growth in enrollment in its online, Youngstown and Steubenville campuses for the coming school year.

The board met for the first time Wednesday since college President Jimmie Bruce announced the closure of the college’s Warren campus.

“As we grow, we need to make sure we focus on maintaining the quality of our offerings,” Bruce said. “We have to be committed to providing a quality academic infrastructure for the students.”

Bruce recommended that pending the passage of the state budget, the college should raise tuition by $10 per credit hour.

A discount provided to students in Jefferson County – who attend the Steubenville campus – was removed by the board. Students paid $111 per hour with the discount. Their new rate, starting in the fall semester, will be $117 per hour. Bruce estimates the discount’s removal should generate an additional $145,000 that he said will be used toward capital improvements at the Steubenville campus.
