Teacher is cited on an assault charge

Police issued a summons to a teacher at Life Skills High School to appear at 10 a.m. today in municipal court after officers said he fought with a student Monday.
According to reports, officers arrived at the South Side school on Market Street at 1:57 p.m. responding to a call about a teacher assaulting a student. The student, as well as multiple witnesses, told officers he was sitting in a classroom with a laptop computer when the teacher took it away. The student stood up and asked for it back.
The student continued to approach the teacher, who turned around and struck the student in the face, leading to a fight. School staff separated them, reports said.
Police cited the teacher on an assault charge. Police redacted his name, citing department policy.
Campaign chairmen

The Canfield Fair Foundation and the fair’s board of directors have appointed four past board members and longtime fair supporters to help lead the capital campaign and serve as honorary co-chairmen.
George Berlin, Joe Dickey Jr., David Myers and Donald Snyder Jr. have been tapped to lead the fundraising efforts of the $4.5 million, five-year capital campaign.
The capital campaign has raised $1,035,100 of its $4.5 million goal for the construction of a new, year-round, multipurpose exposition facility on the fairgrounds, as well as additional buildings and barns to be built on the grounds.
Greene road closed

Dennison Ashtabula Road, between state Route 87 and Gardner Barclay Road, will be closed from Wednesday to June 6 for a culvert replacement. The recommended detour is west on Route 87 and south on state Route 46.
