Robbery is thwarted

WARREN

An employee of Circle K on Parkman Road Northwest pushed the safe closed as two armed men demanded money, thwarting a larger robbery early Sunday.

One employee said she thinks the two males were the same ones who robbed her and the store May 8.

Police were called to the store, 4021 Parkman, at 5:34 a.m. and learned that two males robbed two female clerks of cash from the register and fled. Both had a handgun.

The two drove to the store in a dark blue Impala. One was wearing dark pants and a red jacket with a hood over his head and a white ski mask.

The other was wearing dark pants, a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head and a black ski mask.

The earlier robbery occurred at 2:40 a.m. In addition to cash, they got cigars.

Market is robbed

WARREN

The North End Market, 1645 North Park Ave., was robbed at gunpoint at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

A clerk said a man entered the store with a gun and a bookbag, which the robber threw over the counter. The employee gave the suspect cash and turned over his silver bracelet when the robber demanded it.

The robber also stole cigarillos and ran before running away. He was wearing a blue mask, black pants and a black and gold coat.

Toddler’s broken bones

WARREN

A child, 17 months, of Maryland Street Northwest, was treated at Akron Children’s Hospital early Sunday for apparent broken bones suffered Saturday afternoon, Warren police said.

Police went to Peace Avenue to gather information on the incident.

Car break-in reported

WARREN

A Dunstan Drive Northwest woman yelled at two males breaking into her car at 2:20 a.m. Sunday.

One of them fired a handgun toward her apartment, with the bullet getting lodged between the two panes of the apartment window.

The males were wearing hooded sweatshirts, one red and one black.

Man robbed at home

WARREN

Police reported that a man was robbed at gunpoint at 12:15 a.m. Saturday at his home in the Riverview Motel on Parkman Road.

An undisclosed number of people took money, cellphones and a suitcase.

Interviews for library job

YOUNGSTOWN

The search committee of the trustee board of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County meets at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday at the Main Library on Wick Avenue to conduct interviews of candidates for the library system’s executive director position.

The committee will begin in open session then adjourn into an executive session.

Heidi M. Daniel, executive director since July 18, 2012, will be leaving in mid-July to take the helm at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore.

Houses hit by gunfire

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said two West Side houses were damaged by gunfire late Saturday.

Officers were called just before midnight to the first block of South Osborn Avenue, where a couple there said they got in an argument with another couple and a man pulled out a gun and fired six shots.

Reports said the couple’s house was hit by three bullets, and the house next door was also struck by a bullet. No one was injured.
