YOUNGSTOWN

A vehicle crashed into a utility pole at about 7 p.m. Saturday on South Avenue near Mabel Avenue, sending the driver, a 26-year-old woman, to the hospital, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

City police said the four children in the car – age 2,3, 5 and 7 – were not in car seats but did not appear to be injured.

The driver, southbound in the left lane of South, reportedly lost control of her vehicle and struck a utility pole at Emery Avenue. Police said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to have been involved.

YSU alumni co-author ‘Jewish Youngstown’

Three Youngstown State University alumni have co-authored a book, titled “A History of Jewish Youngstown and the Steel Valley,” released by publisher The History Press.

The writers – Thomas Welsh, Joshua Foster and Gordon F. Morgan Jr. – created a 208-page narrative based on previous historical accounts, volumes of archival data and scores of interviews with members of the Jewish community in and around Youngstown.

The authors plan an official launch for the book at 5 p.m. May 22 at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 W. Federal St.
