UPDATE | 9-year-old's cocaine death being treated as homicide


YOUNGSTOWN — The amount of cocaine found inside a 9-year-old boy's system who died the day after Christmas was "off the charts."

The death of Marcus Lee was ruled as accidental, but is being treated as a homicide by police. The boy died at his mother's home on Midland Avenue.

The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office said earlier today Lee died of a cocaine overdose.

A news release said toxicology tests performed by the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office found that Marcus lee died of acute cocaine toxicity.

Lee was a former student at McGuffey Elementary School.
