Youngstown Italian Fest seeks pageant applicants

YOUNGSTOWN

The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest is seeking applicants for its pageants, scholarship and man and woman of the year. The festival will take place Aug.4-6 in downtown Youngstown.

Pageants

The Miss Italian Festpageant is set for Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. on the main stage for young ladies of Italian descent between the age 14 and 19.

There also is a Junior Miss pageant for girls age 8 to 13.

Contestants will be showcased in evening gown, talent and judge’s question. In the past, the talent portion has consisted of singing, dancing, musical instruments, readings, comedy, hobbies and speech.

Applications can be obtained at youngstownitalianfest.org. The deadline is June 30.

Man, Woman of Year

The Fest is seeking nominations from family members, friends, or neighbors for Italian man and woman of the year. Those selected will be introduced at the Fest ceremony Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. inside the Roma tent, and also will carry the gifts at the noon Mass on Aug. 6, also in the Roma tent.

Little King and Queen

The Little King and Queen and Little Prince and Princess pageant will take place Aug. 6 at 2:30 p.m. for girls and boys age 4 to 7 of Italian descent.

Each contestant will be asked the same general questions. Types of questions to review with your child include:

What do you like to do for fun?

Who is your best friend?

What is your favorite animal at the zoo?

What is your favorite thing to eat?

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Attire is church or school casual but can be as dressy as desired. The winners will receive a crown or sash, a trophy and a gift bag.

SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants for the $1,000 Youngstown State University scholarship also are being sought. The winner must be present at the opening ceremony at 5 p.m. Aug. 4.

An application, with an essay that includes a brief description of the candidate’s Italian heritage, YSU banner number and two photographs must be mailed to Deborah Mottle, 212 N. Cadillac Drive, Youngstown OH 44512 by June 15.
