Boardman man being investigated for sex offenses
BOARDMAN
A township man who police took into custody Friday is being investigated for a “possible series of sex offenses,” Boardman Police Chief Jack Nichols said.
As law-enforcement officers searched a Lockwood Boulevard house Friday, Robert W. Boyd, 47, was arrested on two counts of contributing to the unruliness/delinquency of a child and one count of furnishing alcohol to minors, according to court records. Court records indicate that warrants for his arrest were issued Thursday.
Nichols said additional charges in the sex-offense case are likely.
Law-enforcement officers seized evidence from two locations: one in the 5500 block of Lockwood Boulevard, where court records indicate that Boyd lives; and one on West Boulevard. A bomb squad was called to the West Boulevard address after officers found commercial fireworks in the basement.
Included in the seized property are computers that police will inspect as part of the sex-offense investigation.
The investigation arose after school resource officers received a tip, Nichols said. He said that neither Boyd nor the complaint about him is connected to the school district.
Officers spent several hours inside the Lockwood Boulevard house Friday. A towing company showed up to take away a Ford Mustang parked in the driveway.
After officers had been in the home for some time, an officer led Boyd out in handcuffs and took him away in a police cruiser to be booked at the police station.
The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, citing court documents, reported that the alleged offenses took place on three dates in March and April.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation also took part in the searches Friday. Nichols said BCI likely will play a role in analyzing the evidence.
Police have not detailed the specific nature of the allegations against Boyd.
