Hooves all that remain after BMW plows into carousel horse
MERIDIAN, Miss.
Police in Mississippi are searching for the driver of a black BMW who they say smashed into one of Meridian’s decorative carousel horses outside a bank, leaving only shiny hooves behind.
The Meridian Star reports that the vehicle demolished the horse on the sidewalk outside First State Bank and uprooted several trees May 1.
The Star’s photo of the aftermath shows the hooves of the colorful horse left on the sidewalk.
Meridian tourism officials say dozens of life-size carousel horse sculptures are scattered around the city. One of Meridian’s biggest attractions is its Dentzel Carousel, created about 1895 by carousel builder Gustav Dentzel of Philadelphia.
Teen’s plea for free Wendy’s nuggets sets retweet record

A Twitter plea from a Nevada teen for a year of free chicken nuggets from Wendy’s is now the most retweeted post of all time.
Carter Wilkerson asked the fast- food chain on Twitter last month how many retweets it would take for him to get free nuggets for a year. Wendy’s replied, “18 million.”
Wilkerson’s screenshot of the exchange has moved past Ellen DeGeneres’ viral tweet from the 2014 Oscars on Tuesday with more than 3.4 million retweets. Twitter confirmed the record to The Associated Press on Tuesday.
Dublin, Ohio-based Wendy’s says Wilkerson has earned the nuggets despite not hitting the 18 million mark.
85 songbirds die while being smuggled into US
LOS ANGELES
A California man was arrested last month at Los Angeles International Airport after purportedly trying to smuggle 93 songbirds into the country. All of the birds except for eight died during transit.
The Orange County Register reports 49-year-old Kurtis Law put the birds in a suitcase in Vietnam, where he has a house. The birds were discovered while Law’s suitcase went through an X-ray machine.
Law has been charged with smuggling goods into the country, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
