Postal food drive
The National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 385, announces its participation in the 2017 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday. It is the biggest one-day food drive in the nation. This is the day postal carriers ask their patrons to leave food by their mailbox for carriers to pick up while delivering mail.
Crash kills Pa. man
MERCER, PA.
A Cochranton, Pa., man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday when he lost control of his car on a left-hand curve while traveling north on state Route 173 (Sandy Lake Road), just south of Urey School Road in Mill Creek Township. He struck a drainage ditch/culvert, went airborne and continued to travel north on the east berm until the vehicle stopped. The driver, Kenneth L. Anthony, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner John Libonati, said Pennsylvania State Police investigator Ronald Scott.
Ramp closures
The ramp from Interstate 80 westbound to state Route 7 and U.S. Route 62 in Hubbard will be closed from 6 p.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Tuesday for road work, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced. The detour will be I-80 west to state Route 193 to I- 80 east. In Milton Township, the ramp from state Route 534 to Interstate 76 eastbound will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday for pavement repairs. The detour will be Mahoning Avenue to Bailey Road.
Basket weaving
MERCER, PA.
Join Munnell Run Farm in conjunction with Lyn Peterson for a program on basket-weaving from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 at the farm’s “Pig Barn,” 753 Greenville Road. Participants should bring a lunch and beverage, scissors, a pencil and tape measure. All other materials will be provided. Cost is $18; preregistration and prepayment is required by Tuesday. GROVE CITY, PA.
The Rev. Saleem Ghubril, executive director of The Pittsburgh Promise, will speak at Grove City College’s 2017 Baccalaureate service at 7 p.m. May 19. The Rev. Mr. Ghubril is focused on transforming the quality of education and life in the city and making higher education a reality for all of Pittsburgh’s urban youth. He also serves as volunteer pastor of Mosaic Community Church in Pittsburgh, which has a vision of nurturing a growing interracial, international and intergenerational community of believers. He also serves on the boards of The Buhl Foundation, Vibrant Pittsburgh and World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh.
