The Kathy R. Murphy Beatitude House Scholarship was recently awarded to Sarah Ludwick.
The scholarship is dedicated in memory of Murphy, a 30-year teacher and counselor, and is awarded to a woman who has completed the Beatitude House program.
Ludwick found Beatitude House with her two sons after being evicted from her apartment and escaping an abusive relationship. The organization enrolled her in a financial literacy class, and she met regularly with a child advocate to learn how to raise her children as a single mother.
She is pursuing a degree in social work.
Beatitude House also is announcing its new executive director, Gina Pastella. She was selected by the board of directors.
Pastella has experience with nonprofit and for-profit businesses. She has previously worked as vice president of VEC, Inc., and has served in leadership positions with Shepherd of the Valley.
