A Bristolville man who robbed three Warren area stores in 2012 and got four years in prison is accused of doing the same thing again last week.
Derek M. Markley, 34, of North Park Avenue Extension was arraigned Friday in municipal court on charges accusing him of robbing the Sheetz gas station on Elm Road on April 25 and the McDonald’s restaurants in Warren and Champion on April 26.
If convicted, Markley could get up to 24 years in prison.
He was released from prison sometime in 2016 after being convicted of three robberies in May 2012 at the same Sheetz gas station and two Warren pharmacies within 16 hours of one another.
The pharmacies were the CVS on East Market Street and the Walgreens on Elm Road.
Not-guilty pleas were entered for Markley in Warren Municipal Court. He is in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.
According to police, the Sheetz robbery occurred April 25 when a man walked in at 5:55 p.m. and requested money from the drawer. He told the clerk he had a gun, but he didn’t show one, police said.
At 6:05 a.m. April 26, Markley walked to the counter at the South Street McDonald’s restaurant and asked for napkins, then demanded money from the register, police say.
An employee described him as being in his 20s or 30s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and skinny with no facial hair or glasses. She said he had a tattoo on his neck. The suspect didn’t show a gun but said he had one, police said.
At 11 a.m. that same day, Markley robbed the Champion McDonald’s, 4291 Mahoning Ave., police say.
The suspect told two employees he had a gun but didn’t show it, police said.
In all three robberies, police said Markley got an undetermined amount of cash and fled.
Sgt. Joe Kistler of the Warren Police Department said earlier this week he suspected the same man committed the two Warren robberies. He said the man appeared to be using the same silver vehicle in both crimes.
The man in the Champion robbery also had a silver vehicle and a tattoo on his neck, Champion police said.
Warren police arrested Markley on warrants at an apartment on Arnold Drive Southwest in Warren at 9:21 a.m. Thursday.
Markley’s mother filed a police report last Nov. 23, saying she believed her son was responsible for taking her television set from her home. She told police she believed her son took the television to trade for crack cocaine.
